New Type of Bedtime Story It is poor fun telling bedtime stories to children now. An obliging uncle in tho Royal Air Force, says a London paper, was requisitioned to talk his small nephew to sleep. “1 don’t want ‘Mother Goose,’ or ‘Tho Three Bears,’ or any of that stuff,” he was warned. “Tell a true story about an airman.” The story proceeded to a thrilling end: “And so the dauntless fighter pilot received a decoration from the King’s own hand.” ‘‘‘How filly of you, uncle,” protested the indignant cherub. “The Dauntless is a dive-bomber, not a fighter.” West End’s Progress A successful dahlia show was held under the auspices of the West End Progressive Association, the results being: Single bloom, Mrs. J. Pritchard 1, Mrs. J. O. Boniface 2; three blooms (small), Mrs. fcs 8. Clarke 1 and 2; decorated bowl or basket, Mrs. Ax 1 and 2. Mr. Busst had a fine display of dahlias which were admired. Mr. Mason acted as judge and gave an in structive talk on dahlia growing. The presentation of the gardening cup took place. The winner for 1943 ia Mr. F. Coleman, of Savage Crescent, with Mr. Worsfold, of College Street, second, and Mr. D. Thorburn, Savage Crescent, third. Last year’s winner, Mrs. Haddon, was also presented with a small trophy. At a committee meeting the secretary (Mrs. Livingston) was granted three months’ leave of absence. Mr. C. Clarke is acting pro tern.
