Japs Ready to Surrender

Received Sunday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, Feb. 28.

A Marino Corps correspondent on Guadalcanar relates that a Japaneso superior private captured in a middle of January volunteered the information that many of his Japanese companions were anxious to surrender, lie told a marine officer, who spoke Japanese, that he would broadcast an appeal to them through loud speakers with the officer ready to shut off tho mike in the event of treachery. The Japanese spoke written lines appealing to his companions to surrender, explaining that he had received excellent food, cigarettes and the kindest treatment imaginable. He also told the Japanese that they were surrounded with no chance of escape and that they would be given generous treatment. They must approach singly from daybreak onwards with hands up, palms forward. Eight Japanese, meticulously obeying the instructions, surrendered at daybreak.
