Life of Crime
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 25.
Terms of imprisonment totalling 12 years and nine mouths were passed upon Herbert Harris Keith Maxfield, aged 33, by the Hon. Mr. Justice Fair to-day for 11 offences of theft, five of unlawfully converting motor cars, five
of breaking and entering, and one charge of negligent driving causing death. The Judge said Maxfield’s life had been one of crime and his record was bad from the time he was a boy aged 10. Prisoner was declared an habitual criminal at 18 and did not avail himself of the many opportunities to reform. 14 You are an habitual criminal in law and in fact,” said the Judge. “In your last series of crimes you were responsible for the death of a man who had joined you in crime.”
