Sunshine Club Visits Awapuni Home

Thursday afternoon last was a joyous day for both the inmates of Awapuni Homo and the Sunshine Club members, who took a happy band of performers out to the Home. The matron (Miss Wright) welcomed the club members and performers on their arrival, which was greeted with prolonged applause by the inmates. Bowls of gay scarlet geraniums I created a blaze of colour in the room in which the concert, was held. Prior to the commencement of the programme, Airs. E. Doherty, in her usual gracious manner, expressed the pleasure of the memoers in oeing present, and stated that she hoped the inmates would derive as much pleasure from the programme as the club did in presenting it. Thanks were due to Airs. W. H. Boon, who had so ably enlisted the services of the artists. Airs. Dohei'ty offered apologies for Alesdames Shaw, McCulloch and Watson. The programme commenced with community singing led by Airs. H. Prince and ably accompanied by Mrs. W. H. Boon, the old people joining in heartily with all the old favourite aongs which they requested. This was followed by two solos rendered by All’s. lieggie, “Ivillarney’' and “The End of a Perfect Day.” Alesdames Lucas and Spencer provided the humour of the afternoon with their very amusing individual sketches, the inmates rocking with laughter. John AlcAlillan, perfect exponent of National dancing, gave the Sailors’ Hornpipe and the Jrish Jig being accompanied on the bagpipes by Aliss Heather Proctor, who herself later entertained with the seantriubhs. Mesdames Ryan and Linklater rendered enjoyable vocal solos, thus completing a delightful programme at the conclusion of which Air. AlcElligot returned thanks, on behalf of the inmates, for the items which he stated had been greatly appreciated by. all. Alusical honours were then accorded the inmates after which Airs. Doherty, on behalf of the club, extended good Avishes for an enjoyable Christmas and a lluppy New Year. Later, club membei’s were entertained at afternoon tea by the matron, who i’eturned thaixks for the aftei’noon provided by the members, and also for the donation for Chi’istmas cheer for her old people.
