Rev. A. Leighton Dixon

VALEDICTORY SOCIAL St. Paul's schoolroom was crowded on Tuesday night for the congregational farewell to the Rev. A. Leighton Dixon, for just over seven years pastor of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Feilding, and who left by train last night for Whangarci to go into camp as a Padre with the Forces. Mr. T. Pagan, representing the session, dcoupied the chair and expressed the appreciation of elders, managers and congregation of the work done by Mr. Dixon during his pastorate of just over seven years, particularly eulogising his success with young people. Mrs. Dixon was alsc thanked for the services rendered. Bright addresses were given by repre- ' sentative speakers, Mayor Seddon, on behalf of the citizens, returned thanks for Mr. Dixon’s activities as deputy Chief Warden; Col. Macaulay, Chief Warden, for the help rendered by Warden Dixon; Archdeacon Petrie, speaking for the Ministers’ Association; Rev. Mr. Warnock, of Terraco lSnd, on behalf of the Wanganui Presbytery, of which he is Moderator; Rev. Mr. Hubbard, of Palmerston North, Interim Moderator for St. Paul’s Church; Mr. lan Brown, for the Bible Class leaders and teaching staff of the Sunday School; Mrs. Hewitt (who presented a floral spray to Mrs. Dixon), who spoke for the P.W.M.U. A number of apologies were read, a notable letter being that from the veteran elder, Mr. Thos. Watson. A letter was also read from the 8.M.5., expressing appreciation of the musical gifts and services of Mr. and Mrs. Dixon. The presentation of a cheque for a substantial amount subscribed by members of the congregation was made during the evening. Musical items interspersed the speeches and the occasion was rounded off by a sumptuous supper provided by a committee of ladies, who were thanked for their generous hospitality.
