Italy Urged to Kick Germans Out
NEW YORK, Oct. 27. Mr. La Guardia, Mayor of New York, revealed that in a shortwave broadcast to the Italians in August, he appealed direct to King Victor Emmanuel to kick the Germans out. “Don’t permit this slaughter to continue: there’s still time to return to your friends,” he said. “Millions of your former subjects are now loyal Americans and stand solidly behind the American Republic. In their names, I appeal to you. Let us stand together for peace and freedom as in 1918.” In a speech in .Pennsylvania, Mr. La Guardia urged that Hitler, Hirohito, and Mussolini should be executed or placed in captivity prior to the peace conferences.
A Geneva message says that the hostile attitude of the Italian Catholics towards the war was mentioned by the newspaper Regima Fasclsta in an article extolling the confidence of the Italian soldiers compared with the pessimism of the Catholics. The Regima Fascista suggests soldiers should visit the editors of the various Catholic newspapers in order to Inspire the staffs with confidence in Victory.
The Rome radio’s pep talker, Mario Appelius declared: 'The Mediterranean is once more In the front line of the battle, and the English and American strategists have finally chosen it as the leading theatre of their war. We will be disciplined and we will be satisfied with the news given us dally in our communiques.” A ghost voice interjected: “Why don’t your communiques tell the truth about your cities? 1 ’
RUGBY, Oct. 27. Details have now been revealed of a new British high speed reconnaissance bomber, the De HaVilland Mosquito. It Is unique among contemporary operational types in being of wooden construction. It is a twin-engined monoplatie powered by Rolls Royce engines which ire fitted to three-bladed D.M. hydromatic aliS screws.
The engines are underslung in clean lined Nacelles. The design is excellent with a beautiful appearance, giving an Impression of high speed and extreme manoeuvrability and its Bimple wooden Construction lends itself to widely dispersed manufacture. The Armament may * our m.m. cannon and four .303 machine-guns. The wingspan is 54ft. 2in. overall, the length 40ft. 9§in., and the height with tail down 13ft. 3in. The undercarriage and tail-wheel are retractable.
