Tribute to British Navy
KEPT ROAD TO VICTORY OPEN (British Official Wireless.) Received Wednesday, 7.zu p.m. ttUGbf, oct. 27. The world to-day is witnessing tne most impressive demonstration of sea power in History, said Admiral Siam, commander of the United Slates naval forces ‘.u Europe, wnen broadcasting to America on me occasion ot the United States Navy °ay celebration. Admiral Stara said a second, third, fourtn or any number oi additional fronts was possible only if the sea lanes were kept open. Only by control of the sea lanes and air lanes overseas could the United States bring to bear its enormous strength. Sea power alone could not win the war but only sea powe. could ensure the transport or men ana munitions to vital theatres. Either we would go to the enemy or the enemy would come to us. That was the issue and sea power would decide that issue. Until a year ago Britain and the Dominions were fighting almost alone to control the vital sea Janes. For two ana a-lialf years the British Navy singlehanded had in fact kept open the road to victory for our way of life against Nazi tyranny.
