Will Giraud Lead Crusade for Liberation ?
Received Sunday, 7.30 p.m. LONDON, May 10.
Vichy reports state that General Giraud (who escaped from Germany) is understood to have signed a pledge of fidelity to Marshal Petain declaring that he will not rally to General de Gaulle, but refusing a pledge not to take up arms against the Germans. General Giraud has received thousands of letters from reserve French officers agreeing to follow his leadership if he begins a crusade for France’s libera* tion.
The reports add that Giraud offered to return to Koeningstein if the Germans released all the married French prisoners, but Abetz refused.
