Obituary
MRS. J. E. CATTELL, OF FEILDING The death occurred recently at the age of 78 years of Mrs. Jane E. Cattell, of “Awatea,” Pharazyn Street, Feilding, an early settler in the town. A daughter pf the late Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Clapham, of Wellington, who came to New Zealand in 1542, Mrs. Cattell was married in the Capital City and, following the death of her husband (Mr. Charles S. Cattell) shortly afterwards she came to live in Feilding with her brother. Mrs. Cattell was a devout member of St. John’s Anglican Church, and on the death of her brother she. donated four very handsome stained-glass windows to the church, which to this day contribute to the picturesque interior decorations of the building. In her earlier days Mrs. Cattell had a beautiful garden and interested herself in the flower shows held in Feilding. The cultivation of pot plants was among her hobbies, and many choice flowers were raised in her greenhouse in Pharazyn Street. Deceased leaves several nieces and nephews, among whom is Miss F. Maguire, who lived with her aunt till the time of her death. The funeral, which was of a private nature, took place at the Feilding cemetery on Thursday, Rev. W. Lowe conducting the service. The pall-bearers were Messrs. W. G. and K. Clapham (Kiwitea), W. Ingle (Marton), W. Barrow (Cheltenham), E. G. Goodbehere and W. A. Sandilands (Feilding).
