A most enjoyable function was held in the Library Hall on Saturday night, the occasion being the 13th birthday ot the Alangatainoka W.I. Music for the dancing was played by Mrs. E. Olsen, and the ‘duties of Ai.C. were ably carried out by Mr. S. Eose. A lucky spot waltz was won by Aliss Joy Henry and partner. The cake donated by the members was won by Mrs. Macrae. After supper the opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Alichael Braddick, who has joined the Navy. Mr. H. Goodwin thanked the institute for allowing the presentation to be made at their function, and on behalf of the local residents made the usual presentation and wished “ Mick” the best ot luck. Mr. Bisset apologised for the absence of the deputy Alayor, Air. Judd, and made a presentation from the patriotic committee. Musical honours and three cheers were accorded the guest ot the evening. Michael thanked all his friends and neighbours for the gift and good, wishes. Dancing was continued and the evening concluded at midnight with the singingof “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem. OROUA DOWNS The annual meeting was held in March, when the work of the past busy and successful year was received. Mrs. Marchant was re-elected president and the following ladies form the committee: Mesdames Gordon, Funnel], Cotton, Veale, Dench, Smith, Burling, Gray, AJarsdon, Scoft and Miss Gates. A presentation was made to Aliss Pearl Gray on the occasion of her approaching marriage. Following a discussion over prizes for competitions it was decided to give small monthly prizes, Mrs. Scott generously donating those for the next three months. Points prizes for the year in the three competitions were all won by Mrs. Dench, the winners of the day being: Darned sock, Airs. Albrey; collection vegetables, Airs. Scott; best bloom, Mrs. Thomson. Aliss M. Greenwcll, from Palmerston North, gave an interesting and instructiva address on India and some beautiful examples of Indian handiwork were shown. For the April meeting the competitions will be a child’s garment suitable for the refugee collection, and best bloom. The sewing guild will meet at 11 a.m. on Institute day, April 21.
