Drag Derived from Soil Gives Amazing Results
'Rec. 7, 1.45) NEW YORK, Nov. 6. Amazing results in healing sores and wounds with a new ccug discovered in the soil, and named gramicidin, were reported to the College of Surgeons to-day. The potency of the drug, which was literally unearthed in 1939 by Dr. Rene Duboire, of the Rockefeller Institute, is reported to be 1000 to 100,000 times greater than that of sulphanilamide. One-millionth of a teas,poonful is sufficient to ltotect a mouse from 10,000 fatal doses of pneumonia germs. The British have asked permission to try the drug on war wounded.
