RACING OF TWO-YEAR-OLDS Writing in the N.Z. Sporting Gazette, the well-known handicapper, Mr. J. E. Henrys, stated that it was worthy of note that the great galloper, Gloaming, never started in any race as a two-year-old, and notwithstanding the fact that Gloaming won over £43,000 in stakes, he never once started in a handicap race. He added: “Racing two-year-old babies in New Zealand in the months of September and October is unkind and has probably ruined the career of many promising horses in this country.”
