Seasonal Labour for Farms
The placement officer, Mr. J. L. C Merton, states that last year no diffi
culty was experienced in finding labour for farmers' seasonal work such as, harvesting, haymaking, etc. Arrangements were made with the local authorities for the release of men employed on Scheme No. 13 and the men sent out into the country did (good work. This labour will again be available and, in addition, provision is» being made to pay transport costs within a radius of 15-20 miles for any casual labour required by farmers. This scheme has been tried out in one or two parts of the Wellington Province with good results.
In addition to this labour farmers can obtain through the placement office secondary school boys during the Christmas holidays and on Saturdays.
