Regulations for Employment Of Land Girls

WELLINGTON, Nov. 6. New Zealand is in future to have its land girls or at any rate regulations have been gazetted to-night providing for their employment. This is done by the Agricultural Workers’ Labour Legislation Suspension Order, 1941, which comes into force as from to-day. The order affects female agricultural workers of 18 years of age and over employed on dairy farms or on farms and stations used for the commercial production of wool, meat and or grain including seeds, and who have been selected for such employment by an organisation authorised by the Minister of National Service. The order will also apply to the girls’ employers. The provision of the Agricultural Workers’ Act arc suspended to permit the following minimum wages to be paid to such workers on dairy farms 35s weekly and keep for the first six months and thereafter 42s 6d weekly plus keep. On other farms and stations 30s weekly for the first six months plus keep and thereafter 35s weekly plus keep.
