Nazi U-Boats Operating Close to Newfoundland
TWO ATTACKED; ONE PROBABLY SUNK Received Thursday, 8.30 p.m. TORONTO, Njpv. 6. The Canadian Navy Minister, Mr. MacDonald, said to-day that Nazi submarines were operating off the coast of Newfoundland within sight of shore. This disclosure was made with the approval of the Chief-of-Staff, Nellies. Mr. MacDonald said that twp U-boats were attacked and one possibly sunk off the northern tip last month. Submarines were located where the Strait of Belle Isle debouches into the Atlantic. Others were sighted south and east of the east coast pf Newfoundland.
