Canadas War Effort
Received Thursday, 9.30 p.m. OTTAWA, Nov. 5. Canada’s wartime shipbuilding programme is being expanded to enxble the construction of 55 corvettes, 25 minesweepers, 16 trawlers, and 50 cargo ships announced Mr. Howe (Minister of Munitions.) This is additional to the 230 naval units already unler construction.
The Defence , Minister ,'C'il mol Raiston) told the Canadian House of Commons that Canada now had over 110,000 soldiers overseas plus 99,000 members of the Air Force atul the equivalent' of two military divisions serving with the navy. He added Hat recruitments since Mav were 59,000 for tho army, 35,000 for the Air Force, and 11,000 for the navy. These figures did not include compulsory home defence trainees aged from 21 to 25.
