PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY The favourites did not fare too well at Riccartoa on Tuesday, but somo of them were unlucky and too much notice should not be taken of their performances. The going is likely to be slow to-day and horses which might command respect in their engagements are as under:— Aylesbury Handicap: Scottish Dale, Te Marua, Highland Dance. Sumner Hack Handicap: Good Health, Scarteen, Muffler. Beaufort Steeplechase: Night Scout, Gay Boa, Son and Heir. Woolston Handicap: Ann Mie, Sanction, Greenbank. Grand National Hurdles: Esperance Bay, Tidewaiter, Pekoe. Spreydon Hurdles: Cuisinier, Fundy Bay, Merry Simon. Islington Handicap: Gladynev, Boloyna, Young Charles. August Handicap: Black Majesty, Sceptre, Gold Flight. THE ACCEPTANCES

The report to be submitted by the president-(Mr. R. MacDonald) to mem- : bers of the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club at the annual meeting next Saturday will be as under:— “Our 1941 meeting had a special interest as it marked the fiftieth anniversary of the formation of the club, and many of those associated with the ( club in former years were present. It , ' was pleasing to have Mr. F. J. Roberts ] on the owners’ list for this meeting, as 1 he raced, very successfully, at the j original meeting 50 years ago. The ] opportunity was taken during the day i to present gold badges to life members, - Messrs. R. MacDonald, F. J. Roberts, J. Tremewan and A. TV. Trass. The two ■. other life members, Messrs. J. E. | Henrys and G. Russell, were, unfortu- ' nately, unable to be present. “The race meeting was quite success- i ful; fields were well filled and good racing resulted. The totalisator turnover, £17,469, was £2376 more than at the previous meeting, and other revenue was well maintained. The profit, after providing for depreciation, £240, was | £SO 16s lid. The amount given in •takes was £I4OO. “ The farm has again contributed substantially to the funds of the club, a net profit of £ll7 11s id resulting from the year’s operations. This amount has been transferred to the revenue account, making the total net profit as shown therein, £l6B Bs. “A total of £4O was donated to funds for patriotic purposes, and capital improvements costing £123 13s lOd were carried out during the vefir. I “Cash in the bank at July 31 amounted to £BSB 10s lid, an increase of £3OB 8s 2d since July, 1940. “We regret to record the death during the year of three of our members, the late Messrs. J. H. Carson, V. Goldfinch and J. Mulvaney. The sympathy of the club is extended to the relatives of our late associates. * ‘lt is with regret also that we refer to the death of our late honorary surgeon, Dr. P. T. Putnam, who gave many years of willing service to our club. “The retiring officers, Messrs. R. MacDonald (president), W. Howell and J. H. MacDonald (vice-presidents), J. Tremewan (treasurer), D. I. Balmer, T. Learay, A. K. Mitchell and D. Spelman (stewards), have all been returned unopposed.* *
