Rangiwahia
(From Our Own Correspondent.) On July 29 a social and sale of work was held at Mrs. G. Rose’s by the Methodist Ladies' Guild. Mesdames Thompson and F. Billinghurst delighted with solos and Mesdames G., Len and L. G. Rose contributed a humorous sketch. The bean throwing was popular, Mrs. Price in charge, Mrs. J. Fraser proving the winner. The stalls did good business in tfie care of Mesdames James and J. L. Rose. Guild members served afternoon tea.
The Guild meeting was held at Mrs. James' residence, those present being Mesdames Len Rose, S. Hodge, James, L. G. Rose, A. Price, D. Jones, Boshier (snr.), G. Rose and a visitor, Miss J. Rose. {Sympathy was extended to j Mrs. Purnell, Apiti, in the death of her husband. Mrs. G. Rose reported on the social and sale of work. The sewing competition for September will be any suitable article, Mrs. L. G. Rose to bring a social competition. Those judging awarded Mesdames D. Jones, G., Leu and L. G. Rose equal firsts this mouth as all articles were especially good. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Jones' residence and hostesses will be Mesdames D. Jones and Gi Rose. Mrs. Boshier won the social competition brought by Mrs. Price. There was a good gathering at the fortnightly cards and dance held at Ruahine. Winners were:—Ladies, Mrs. A. McMillan 1, Mesdames Warren and Stent playing off for consolation prize and Mrs. Stent proving the winner; men, Messrs. Sullavan and S. Thompson also had to play off for first prize, Mr. Sullavan proving the winner. There was a good attendance at the Home Guard meeting and lectures given during the week-end. A large crowd gathered to bid farewell to Leading-Aircraftman Moran, who is the first aircraftman to leave the district. The Patriotic Committee spared no effort to make this function a reminder of the gay times he spent in Rangiwahia. Mr. Couper (chairman of the Patriotic Committee) presented him with a wristlet watch and said the best wishes of all present went with this small token. Mr. Couper made mention of the way Leading-Aircraftman Moran had assisted with tho organisation and running of the Rangiwahia shows. Mrs. C. Smith, president of the Women's Patriotic Sewing Guild, also presented the guest of the evening with a kit of knitted comforts which she hoped he would find useful. He was then accorded musical honours. Supper was served by the ladies of the Patriotic committee.
