This was officially announced in London to-night. A Note to this effect has been handed to the Turkish Government. The text of the British Note reads: “While fully appreciating the desire of the Turkish Government not to be involved in war, the British Governnient and also the Soviet Government will nevertheless render to the Turkish Government every help and assistance in the event of Turkey's being attacked by a European Power.* 9 The British Ambassador to Turkey •Sir Hughe Knatchbull-Hugessen, said that, in view of German propaganda, it was felt desirable to reaffirm the British attitude to Turkey so that there would be no delusion about the policy between the two countries.
