HALCOME-KAKARIKI BRANCH The monthly meeting was held on July 31. Airs. F. Britt presided over a fair attendance. A vote of sympathy was passed to Airs. J. Curtis, who had suffered bereavement. One new member, Airs. Love, was enrolled and baby Jensen presented with a money-box. It was decided to hold the seventh birthday in the form of a euchre and dance on August 15. The proceeds will be in aid of soldiers’ parcel fund and it is to be hoped there will be a good attendance. A slice of birthday cake will be enclosed in each. soldier s parcel. A letter was received from Miss Worth-ington-Evans, secretary to the Duchess of Northumberland, thanking the branch for blankets sent some time ago and also “grateful thanks for what New Zealand has contributed to the war effort." The competition resulted: Mrs. Abbiss 1, Airs. Brett 2. The competition for August will be ginger-nuts, and the hostesses, Mrs. Schaeren and Miss AI. Alas on.
