U.S.A. Launched 34 Warships in July
63 MORE KEELS LAID United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—copyright. WASHINGTON, Aug. 4. The United States Navy announced that last mouth 34 naval vessel# were launched and 63 lcecls laid. The latter include one aircraft-carrier, two cruisers, ten destroyer#, and three #ubI President Roosevelt to-day vetoed a Bill authorising the expenditure of 250,000,000 dollars on highway construction on the grounds that it apportioned the bulk of the funds among States regardless of defence needs. The House of Representatives voted to-day to eliminate a provision requiring married persons to file joint income tax returns, which had been the subject of a hot controversy in the last week. Mr. Roosevelt advised the Ways and Means Committee to eliminate the joint provision, but tho committee rejected tho President’s request because it meant a loss of 323,000,000 dollars in
revenue. The House’s vote is subject to a later roll-call.
