Churchill May Visit U.S., Says New York Paper

(Rec. 6, 2.45) NEW YORK, Aug. 5. The New York Sun says that reports are circulating in Washington .that a high British personage, possibly Mr Churchill cr Lord Beaverbrock, may fly to America to confer with President Roosevelt in the near future.

The Sun points out that a visit by Mr Churchill, who is exceedingly popular in the United States, would have farreaching effects in dramatising the world situation in the minds of fhfe American public, but suggests that Britain may feel that Mr Churchill is to valuable to risk an Atlantic flight. The Canadian Press says that the Canadian Prime Minister, Mr Mackenzie King, and the British High Commissioner, Mr Malcolm MacDonald, both denied knowledge of any projected visit by Mr Churchill. On the contrary, they thought is extreme’y un* ff’kely.

ENEMY CONVOY BOMBED (Rec. 6, 3 p.m.) RUGBY, Aug. 5. An Air Ministry communique says that Blenheims of the Bomber Command attacked an enemy convoy off the Dutch coast this morning. Direct hits were seen on a ship of about 2,000 tons. Other Blenheims bombed enemy patrol ships off the German coast early this afternoon and scored hits on three of them. British fighters carried out offensive patrols over the Channel and Northern France during the day. During one of these patrols, low-level attacks were made on an aerodrome near Ch l : ourg, and several enemy aircraft on the ground were hit and damaged. One British fighter is missing.
