D.F.M. Awards to New Zealand Airmen

RAIDS ON GERMANY Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 29. Air Headquarters have received, advice that the following New' Zealanders have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal:—Sergeant Allan Robert James Box and bergeant William Noel Williams. Tho citations state that Sergeant Williams was observer-navigator in an aircraft which participated in a daylight raid on Bremen in July, 1941. During the action Sergeant Williams was wounded in the leg and foot, and despite this, successfully navigated the aircraft back to tho United Kingdom. Sergeant Box was the rear gunner of an aircraft which carried out a successful attack on Munster this month. On the return trip the plane was attacked by a Messerschmitt, and Sergeant Box fired, causing the attacker to dive towards the sea with his engine on fire. The British aircraft was severely damaged and caught fire, but the pilot managed to get it safely to Britain. Sergeant Box was born at Otahuhu and is a son of Mr. A. F. Box, of Otahuhu, while Sergeant Williams was born at Dunedin and is a son of Mr. N. Williams, of that city.
