Basketball Season Opens

Favoured by a beautifully fine day, with no wind, the Manawatu Basketball Association commenced its season 7 s activities on Saturday with a sealed handicap tournament. Despite the absence of some school teams, 18 sides took part and if tho standard of play season can bo judged from it, then tho prospects for it are excellent. Teams were divided into four sections and results were as follow (with handicaps added): —Section A: High School A 8 points, Whakarongo A G, 11.5.0. G. B 4, Y.W.C.A. 2, High School E 0. Section B: Takaro A 7, High School F G, Bunnythorpo 5, High School B 2, Branmc 0. Section C: Whakarongo B 5, High School C 3, Ramblers 2, H. A 2. Section D: Tech. O.G. G, Takaro B 4, High School D 2, M.K.M. 0. Thus High School A, Takaro A, Whakarongo B and Tech. O.G. -were sectional winners and contested the semifinals for Takaro A and Tech. O.G. to succeed in reaching the finals, which were won by Takaro A. Referees assists ing were: Misses J. Barrie, O. Sinclair, N. Esau, M. Cherrie, J. Clevely, M. Beattie, P. Raisin, J. Davies, S. Coombs, N. Siddells, L. Robinson, A. Wilson, E. Skinner, R. Leask and C. Vautier.
