Smith (Wellington) were visitors to Palmerston North for the quarterly I meeting of the board of management of the W.D.F.U. rest home this week. Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey Hare, of Rata, with their little daughter Angela are to-<tey motoring to Wellington whence they will proceed by plane to Nelson to stay for several weeks with Mrs. Hare’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace. After spending several weeks on the annual visit to their three sons and a I daughter in the south, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Watson, Sandilands Street, Feilding, returned home on Saturday last. Usually they enjoy tire few hours’ flying from Palmerston North to Invercargill, but no seats were available on this occasion, when as many days by steamer and trains were spent on the way. Two sons are Presbyterian ministers, one is a doctor, and the daughter married a doctor. i On Wednesday St. David’s Ladies’ Guild met, Mrs. A. Stewart presiding. It was decided to make a donation of £2 2s to the Mayor’s fund for the relief of sufferers in the flood. It was reported that 800 garments had been sent to the United Guild to date, including 23 new pairs of pyjamas during April. Mrs. C. F. Ladyman. reported that five parcels had been sent during the month to troops on overseas service, four to Egypt and one to Fiji. An anonymous donation of £2 was handed to the president for the refugee relief fund. Pianoforte solos were rendered by Mr. G. Dawson and songs by Mrs. C. Jamieson, accompanied by Mrs. L. J. Ax. A competition arranged by the hostesses, Mesdames Berryman, Anderson and Edwards, was won by Mrs. Eaton. Mrs. Ax sang solos, and Mr. Dawson gave further pianoforte items. Mrs. Newlands thanked the entertainers.
