Pig Breeders’ Association

MANAWATU-OROUA BRANCH A meeting of the Mauawatu-Oroua branch of the New Zealand Pig Breeders ’ Association w : as held yesterday, Mr. W. A. Davison presiding. Also present were Messrs. W. P. Bickers, 11. E. Ficldhouse, B. Bockett, L. li. Rowan, B. Burraeister, H. E. Thurston, YvL L. West, 0. S. Hunt, W. M. Williams, O. C. Ellerm, L. E. Hansen, N. Pedersen, W. C. Scott, U. N. Houghton and G. M. Whitelock. A discussion took place on the allocation of sales to tho different auctioneering firms, but it was decided to make no change. Mr. Bickers moved that it be a recommendation to the Hew Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association that the levy on pigs be not increased an extra penny to threepence, as proposed. Mr. Fieldhouse said that if the weight of the pig was decreased to 1001 b., then it would take three pigs to mako the weight of two at the present time. He was not in favour of saddling aho farmers with any further expenditure. The On Mr. EUerm’s motion, it was decided to ask the New Zealand association to hold its annual meeting in Palmerston North this year. It was stated that Hamilton interests were endeavouring to have the meeting held there. It was also decided to recommend to the association that while members were serving with the overseas forces they be kept financial. Messrs. Whitelock and the president and secretary were appointed a subcommitee to go into iho matter of prizes for the show. Mr. Whitelock said that many expressions had been received in regard to the institution of a classification scheme, and the majority were against the scheme. The Waikato clubs, how rever, wero in favour of it. Mr. Bickers said the Waikato members were opposed to anything that was suggested from this district. On the motion of Mr. Hunt, it was decided to advise the council that, the branch was not in favour of carrying out the classification scheme during the war period and for six months after.
