MANAWATU-OROUA RIVER BOARD MEETS Present at yosterday’s meeting of the Manawatu-Uroua River Board were Trustees J. Calleson (chairman), fc>. Parsons, B. G. Gower,, H. J. Lancaster, R. J. Law, W. Jackson, H. {Seifert and W. S. Carter. The oßard was advised that its request for a subsidy for a stopbauk at Parekawai point, had been referred to the district engineer, Wellington, and also noted for consideration on the estimates. The Public Works Department advised that the transfer of a subsidy from the Buckley Drainage Board to the Manawatu-Oroua River Board for work on the erosion at McGill’s property, Koputaroa, had been approached. {Six settlers on Hamilton’s Line are to be asked to repair the stopbauk damaged by cattle. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. Callesen thanked members- for their courtesy and help while he had been chairman. This was the last meeting of the present board, he said. When he took over the chairmanship he knew it would bo a difficult position, but he felt the board had done very good work. He had resolved that all the benelits should be spread as widely as possible, and he considered the board had been very impartial. He hoped they would all be returned and that their pleasant associations would continue. He also thanked the secretary (Ml R. H. Spencer) and the engineer (Mr. H. R. Farquhar) for their help, j Mr. Carter said that when they selected Mr. Callesen as chairman they had done, a good job. He had been fully impartial. “I would like to come back,” he said, “if only to see tbe Whirokino cut through.” Messrs. Seifert, Lancaster and Wall also spoke, eulogising the work of the chairman, and Messrs. Farquhar and Spencer thanked Mr. Callesen for his remarks.
