National Savings Flag Competition

SEVERAL CHANGES IN LEADING % TOWNS Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 30. For the first fortnightly period in the second stage of the national savings flag competition several changes in the “leading towns” are recorded. This was not unexpected as the contest for the greatest number of national savers in proportion to the size of the community is now restricted to towns with a population of 500 or more. The new arrangement provides the opportunity for the larger towns to win the emblem of supremacy, the national ' savings flag. The changes now disclosed are: Auckland district: Ruawai replaces Whitford; Blenheim district, Soddon replaces Ward; Hamilton district, Rotorua replaces To Anga; Invercargill district, Edendale replaces Waikaka; New Plymouth district, Stratford ' replaces Awakino; Palmerston North district, Pongaroa replaces Weber; Wellington district, Featherston replaces Alfredton. In the eighteen postal districts throughout the Dominion at which the national savings flag will be flown for the ensuing fortnight the “leading towns” are now as follows:—Auckland district, Ruawai; Blenheim district, Seddon; Christchurch district, Waiau; Dunedin district, Owaka; Gisborne district, Te Arahoa; Greymouth district, Ross; Hamilton district, Rotorua; Invercargill district, Edendale; Napier district, Porangahau; Nelson district, Murchison; New Plymouth district, Stratford; Oamaru district, Kurow; Palmerston North district, Pongaroa; Thames district, Whakatane; Timaru district, Geraldine; Wanganui district, Waitotara; Wellington district, Featherton; Westport district, Westport.
