Enrolment of Married Men for War
ABOUT END OF MAY P«r Press Association. •WELLINGTON, May 1. The enrolment of the second division under the National Service Emergency Regulations is expected to take place towards the end of May, according to a statement by the Minister of National Service, Mr It. Semple, to-day. “Due notice will be given,” said Mr Semple, “when married men are required to enrol, and it will then be necessary for every man of the second division to fill in an enrolment form regardless of whether he is registered for'social security purposes.” The Minister also referred to the fact that many men were under the impression that provided they registered for social security purposes and were in possession of a levy book they were automatically registered under the National Service Emergency Regulations. Some confusion had probably arisen, said Mr Semple, through the fact that when the regulations were first brought into operation last June, the social security registration forms were used as the basis for compiling the initial ballot register which consisted of men of the first division only. This was only adopted as a matter of expediency, and all subsequent enrolments were required to be furnished on a form (N. 5.1.) available at all post offices. At present, only members of the first division are enrolled, and if a member of that division does not possess an enrolment certificate, the onus is on him to remedy the defect.
