To Mark a Silver Jubilee

I 1 MR. J. HOLMES RUN NIC LE S’ RECORD OF SERVICE Congratulations were showered upon Mr. J. Holmes Rim nicies by parishioners of All Saints’ Parish at the annual meeting this week on his lino record of service as organist and choirmaster over the past quarter of a century. This achievement is to be marked in fitting manner by the parish in the near future. But Mr. Runniclos has other records to his credit and April of this year also (marks his 25th year as president of the ! Manawatu branch of the Professional iMusicians’ Society. Glancing through old files of ‘The Times, ’* it is interesting to find that the inaugural meeting of the branch was held in the Mayor’s room in April, 1911, an<3 the late Mr. C. W. Naylor was the first president with Madame Harris as the first secretary. Of that pioneer band, Mrs. Richards, now a life member, was on the council, also Mr. Temple White, and one of the foundation members was Mrs. T. Artwood, still a member of the branch. Mr. Runniclos became president in 1916 and Mrs. Attwood secretary, ati office she held until 1932 when Miss Evelyn Rawlins, the present secretary, took over. Incidentally Miss Rawlins is also doe for congratulations in a silver jubilee as treasurer. With the passing of time the membership has fallen due to the formation of neighbouring branches cud also to the fact that membership is now only open to registered teachers. Through tho years the members have mot foi mutual help and for the stimulation of enlightening addresses and other musical experience. A useful part in the musical life of the city has been played by arranging receptions for visiting artists and examiners and in spreading musical appreciation in the community. This milestone in Mr. Runniclos’ office as president is also to lie duly honoured at the annual meeting of the branch when Mr. and Mrs. Rinnicles, will entertain the members at supper.
