MEN DEMAND INCREASE IN PAY Per Press Association. HAMILTON, April 28. The men employed by Glen Afton Collieries at the Macdonald coal mine did not work to-day and have decided to remain idle until the demand they ‘iave made on the management is met. t is understood that the men did not :o to the mine to start work but a meeting was held in Huntly to discuss demand on the management for an ncrease of 3d. a ton for machine-cut daces. This was to include holes oored free or 6d. a tdn increase if they vere not bored free. The present lowest rate under the agreement, which has about 12 months to run, is 2s 9Jd. a ton. At the meeting the decision reached was that tho Macdonald mine would remain idle until the management agreed to the demand. Delegates from each of the Glen Afton Collieries mines were present at the meeting.
