£65,000 Paid to Farmers for Linen Flax

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 28. A total of £65,000 has been received in the last few weeks by farmers in the South Island who have grown linen flax The payment represents the £5 an acre guaranteed to every farmer who undertook to grow flax and will be followed shortly by another payment aggregating 80 per cent, of the value of that portion of the crop which has been accepted for fibre. Payment was duo to-day but owing to an entirely unforeseen difficulty in estimating the weight of straw in the stacks on farms, it will probably be a month before every farmer has received his cheque though the first payments will be made within a few days.
