LAST MEETING OF PRESENT BODY The final meeting of the Palmerston North City Council as at present constituted was held last night, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford) and Crs. G. Tremaine, W. G. Black, W. B. Tennent, D. F. Smillie, A. Grigor, J. Ilodgens, M.P., and J. T. J. | Ileatlev. | A request from the principal of the Intermediate School towards the cost of equipping pupils with sports gear was referred to the incoming council for consideration. The telegraph engineer at Palmerston 1 North wrote forwarding an account for the sum of £2 Gs 3d covering the cost of a telephone stolen from the taxi-stand opposite the railway station and stating , that the attention of the taxi drivers !on the stand should be drawn to the | conditions under which a telephone service is provided to street stands. It was decided that>the account be passed for payment and that the . taxi-stand users lie notified of the happening and that the conditions referred to by the Department be submitted to the taxidrivers and they be requested to adhere strictly to same. The electrical engineer was authorised to install lighting for the Home Guard and Military Reserve at the Central, Terrace End and Boys’ and Girls' High 1 Schools.

The Gas Companies* Association wrote enclosing two copies of accounts in connection with its application for n further grant towards tho amount ot loss on the gas exhibit at the Centennial Exhibition. It was decided that the association be advised that the council regretted being unable to assist further in the matter.

The Manawatu Football Association made application for the use of North Street Park for tho ensuing season, and it was decided that tho request bo granted for primary and secondary schools’ football and that no rental be charged this year.

The Manawatu Hockey Association was granted tho use of three grounds on Hokowhitu Park for hockey matches during the season, at a rental of £IS per annum.

The city engineer (Mr. J. R. Hughes) submitted a report covering various improvements required at both cemeteries, and it was decided that the engineer report further to the next meeting of tho council concerning the proposals in respect of Napier Road Cemetery, and that those referring to James’ Line Qemetery be referred to the incoming council for consideration.
