Willkie Favours Convoy Aid
NEED TO HALT SINKINGS WASHINGTON, April 25. Speaking to-day at Pittsburgh, Mr Wendell Willkie called upon fcbe Administration to. give the American people the full facts of the reported sinking of war materials enroute to Britain. He urged immediate tteps to halt sinkings. “I believe the American people can be brought to the re*.!*satton of the seriousness of the nituation if the full facts are disclosed,” he said. Mr Willkie approved and applauded yesterday’s speeches by Colonel Knox and Mr Hull. President Roosevelt told officers of the Greek Society to-day that the United States intended to continue ah available material aid to peoples defending themselves against aggression, including Greece. Mr Roosevelt said that the heroic struggle of the Hellenic people for their homes and liberties had aroused the sympathy and admiration of the whole American people. National officers of the Greek organisation were received by the President. They assured him that the Greeks would continue to fight in Africa and England, if necessary. Senator Byrd demanded in the Senate to-day that Miss Frances Perkins should be replaced as Secretary of Labour by “a two-fisted man who will have the intestinal fortitude to say to both labour and capital that strikes in the preparedness industries cannot be tolerated.” Senator Byrd said that Miss Perkin, had demonstrated ineptitude, weakness and inability to meet her responsibility in the settlement of strikes.
