Death of Mrs. T. E. Taylor

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 27. The death occurred in Dunedin yesterday of Airs. Elizabeth Best Taylor, J.l’., 0.8. E., widow of the late Air. T. E. Taylor, former member of Parliament aud Mayor of Christchurch. Few women in New Zealand lmd a more distinguished career of public service than Mrs. Taylor, to whose foresight, energy and goodwill many of the most useful organisations in Christchurch owe much. Born in Lyttelton 73 years ago, Airs. [ Taylor associated herself with the poli- \ deal and civil duties of her husband ami j was particularly interested in the lot j of mothers and children. She was one j of the founders of the Christchurch Free Kindergartens and a prominent temperance worker. She was one of the early members of the W.O.T.U. and Dominion president for a considerable time. Airs. Taylor was an enthusiastic member of the Pan-Pacific Women's Association and chairman at the time of her death. She was vice-president of the Christchurch League of Nations Union. Airs. Taylor also had served on the City Council. After her appointment as a Justice of the Peace she was one of the first women to sit in the Children’s Court as magistrate’s associate. Airs. Taylor is survived by four daughters, Mrs. C. R. Alurray (Taumarunui), Norman Page (Greymouth), L. Horwood (Dunedin) and R. G. T. Lewis (Wellington), and one sou, Air. E. B. E. Taylor (Greymouth).
