Britain to Purchase More Dominion Meat
SYDNEY, April 23. The Minister of Commerce, Sir Earle Page, announced to-night that, negotiations had been completed with the British Government for the restoration of 'purchases of Australian meat for the year ended on September 30, 1941, to 198,000 tons from 144,000 tons, to which they were reduced in January. Referring at Wellington to the Sydney cable, the Minister of Marketing and Agriculture, Mr. J. G. Barclay, said that, while arrangements had not been completed, it was anticipated that the New Zealand contract would provide for increases proportionate to those mentioned by Sir Earle Page.
