ELECTION PLEDGES SYDNEY, April 23. In his policy speech last night, the Premier of New South Wales, Air. Mair, declared that tho State Government, if returned, would continue to stand four square behind the Commonwealth Government in helping to win the wav. Mr. Muir went on to explain the extent to which his Government was already co-operating in building strategic railways, roads, bridges, munition factories, annexes, aerodromes, aircraft parts, munitions, forgings, rifle ranges and military camps, in addition to providing water and electricity services and all other amenities required by military camps and persons engaged on war tasks. Mr. Mair said that the Forestry Department had tested 9000 samples of timber to determine their suitability for aircraft. Tho Education Department had trained hundreds of young men as technicians for defence jobs. Tho Police Department had 600 officers deal ing solely with Commonwealth requirements, safeguarding against sabotage and investigating the cases of thousands of aliens. The Health Department was constantly examining water and food samples at the military camps. The Government, said Mr. Mair, had granted liberal travelling concessions to soldiers costing £850,000 a year. Other activities included the provision ot emergency food stocks, three months’ supply of which had been laid down iu all country centres.
