National Party Plans for Election
On Monday evening a meeting of the Palmerston North electorate committee of tin! National Party was held, Mr. H. G. Mills presiding. Other members fo the committee present were: Messrs. J. A. Nash, M. 11. Oram, T. B. Worrall, A. G. Pieraid, C. Procter, F. L. Cubitt, H. L. Hartog, D. Black, F. G. Opie, C. Hayward, L. G. Rieger, Captain .1. K. Middleton, Mesdames W. F. Field, E. Bidden-Jones, J. H. W hyte, C. Hayward and Miss C. vVarburton. Mr. Mills explained that tho meeting had been called to complete arrraugements in connection With the forthcoming selection of a candidate to represent this electorate at the November elections and in view of the fact that it was imperative that the party strength be built up to the highest point he considered an immediate canvass of all supporters should be made. To thfs end the names of all known supporters had been indexed in street order and it was now a matter of arranging a j canvass. A number of those present agreed to undertake the canvass, but in view of the heavy nature of the work lit was decided to supplement their efforts with paid helpers. It was agreed to make public by advertisement that supporters who wished to join the party could do so by application to tho secretary. The committee considered the most suitable dates on which candidates for selection could address party members and on which the voting would take place and it was decided that both these ovents take place early in June. A vote of thamks. was aceordod to Mr. Black
for his services as secretary of the party for the past few months. It was agreed that the chairman, together with Messrs. H. A. Seifert, F. L. Cubitt afid I Mrs.. Field represent the elecloratp at i the annual general meeting of the party ; to, bo held jn.‘Wellington in May. , . «
On behalf of the junior section, Mr. Pierard reported that their functions were becoming so popular that the National, Club premises were hardly big chough to accommodate them and accordingly so far us the dances were concerned these have to be held
elsewhere. Appreciation of the work < : the juniors was expressed and it was left in the hands of tho chairman to sot up a small committee to assist the juniors in their activities. The meeting concluded with an informal discussion of the affairs of the party.
