Wall Street Sighs For Better News

Received Tuesday, 7.15 p.m. NEW YORK, April 21. Government bonds aTO firmer. Australians are holding fairly well, falling only slightly since the general market retreat set in. Wheat continues its slow retreat which began with the Balkan invasion. Prices are now five cents below the high levels reached a fortnight ago. The unfavourable war news, the weakness of securities and the good growing weather all contributed to the decline of wheat prices. The stock market to-day was the dullest for a month. All securities continue to make fractional losses on a low turnover. Wall Street operators sigh for better news and the cessation of industrial disputes. Strikes and the freezing of steel prices have had a depressing effect on steel stocks. Nevertheless industry generally is flourishing. Railroad traflic is increasing greatly and numerous railroads previously in or near bankruptcy are now making more net income than they have been able to show for many years.
