40-minute Rain of Shells
MANY IMPORTANT BUILDINGS ON FIRE LONDON, April 22. Further details Issued by the Admiralty show that the bombardment was accompanied by bombing squadrons of the R.A.F. and Fleet Air Arm. The action began at 5 a.ni. and lasted for 40 minutes, the fleet pouring in a continuous rain of 15-inch shells as well as those of small calibres. Fires were seen to break out in the harbour and port installations, the railway station, naval headquarters, power station and military stores. Hits were also observed on six transports and a destroyer.
