(From Oy Own Correspondent.) < The Opiki Y.F.C. held their annual meeting on Wednesday night. Air. C. s Davey presided. Jt was decided that j the old committee carry on for another year. Air. Robinson, district secretary, was present and advised the club to carry on as usual and gather in new members. The club has been in recess for three months. Mr. C. Davey presented the annual report. Six members of the club have gone overseas on active service. Th’e journal of agriculture has been posted to them. The club up i predated the work of Mr. R. Al. ( Phillips, advisory president. The Anzac service will be held in the ; Opiki Hall on Anzac Day at 7.30 p.m. 1 Rev. Bush will conduct the service, the 1 first to be held in the district. i At the April meeting Aliss G. L. ; Cooksloy presided over a good attendance. Mrs. G. Larsen acted as secre- | tary in the unavoidable absence of Airs, i Krivan. A bring an.l buy stall to begin . a soldiers’ wool fund was held and in , charge of Mrs. Aiteliison. For the monthly competitions it was decided to present a points’ prize at the end of , the year. Airs. Jackson is once again competition steward. The envelope systern will in future be used for all com- j 1 petitions. Monthly meetings are to commence at 1.45 p.m. beginning at the Alay meeting. On it being agreed that the most outstanding event during the

last six months in the institute was the dahlia show, the leader of the ! garden circle, Airs. Wilde, volunteered jto write a report for the Atanawatu (council meeting at Tiakitahuna. It was (decided that the Opiki W.l. birthday be held this year on the evening of Alay Bin te Opiki Hall. Airs. Sanies offered to make and donate the birthday cake, I while Aliss N. Alve will ice it; Mrs. (Wilson is donating the icing sugar. It .was decided that members provide (supper, each lady bringing a plate of cakes and sandwiches. Final arrangements will be made at a committee meeting to be held at 1 p.m. on April 20. The annual report of the garden circle was read by the leader, Mrs. Wilde. This year has been a very satisfactory one. As usual two flower shows have been held. Both efforts were v/sry successful in the numuer of entries and financially. After the daffodil the circle was able to hand £5 to the National Patriotic Fund and £2 to Airs. Akers’ knitting circle wool fund. The dahlia show enabled the garden circle to vote , £6 to the local Heart-to-Heart Appeal Fund. The Opiki Gladioli Cup, purchased with the proceeds of a raffle for a cake donated by Airs. Sanies and a donation from Airs. Aiteliison, was competed for for the first time. During the year stalls wore held to raise funds, and the monthly competitions were well patronized. The trophies for the points prizes were donated by Alesdames Aiteheson, Noripan and Wilde, and they were won by Ai rs. Percy 3, Mrs. Krivan 2, Mrs. White 3. Airs. Wilde thanked |her committee and all those who helped [during the year, their co-operation !being an inspiration to carry on, and mentioned special appreciation that all felt for the untiring efforts of the secretary, Airs. Aiteliison. Tho election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —Leader, Airs. G. J. Wilde; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. J. D. Aitchi- ' son; Alesdames Jackson, Cooksley, [Percy, games, Larsen, Olsen, Aliases ' Wilson and Jackson. A demonstration given during the afternoon was of an electric cleaner. The results of the April competitions arc as folows:— ’ Handkerchief spray, Aliss Percy 1, Mrs. Percy 2, Mrs. Sanies 3; pikelets, Mrs. Aiteliison 3, Airs. Gregory 2, Airs. Wile son 3; best bloom, Aliss Cooksley 1, Airs. Sanies 2, Airs. Cooksley 3. - Hostesses for the afternoon were Ales- . dames Aiteliison, S. Claridge, Alve, 5 Irwin and Aliss Alve.
