Britain’s “National Broad”
I London, March 2. 1 National wholemeal bread is now on .sale. The Ministry of Food has arranged with millers and bakers for the immediate production of whole meal flour and bread. The loaf will be available everywhere at the Eame price as white bread. The new loaf consists of 35 per cent, extraction flour, which Government re- ' search workers have assured the Ministry gives the greatest digestibilty and nutriment. They have proved, they say, that Government wholemeal bread is lgiestible than white bread. Ordinary white bread will be on sale as usual until the Government vitamin ' and calcium-fortified white loaf supersedes it “in a Jew months’ time.” There will be no attempt to push the national loaf, but steps will be taken i to ensure adequate supplies.
