Two Men Injured in Level Crossing Smash
POWER BOARD TRUCK BATTERED BY TRAIN P«r Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 21. Two men wore injured, one of them seriously, in a level crossing accident near the Henderson railway station this morning. They were in a Waitemata Eloctric Power Board truck which wa.s hit at the South Road crossing by a train due to arrive at Henderson from Auckland shortly before noon. The injured were: E. Proctor, married, aged 26, of Henderson, concussion and head injuries, condition serious; J. G. Mackenzie, married, aged 36, of >St. Helier’s, concussion, condition, not serious. Both men were employees of the Waitemata Power Board. The truck was hit on the driver’s side and then carried over the cattle-stop and along the line for about 3 yards before being flung clear and finishing up facing the way from which it had come. Most of the woodwork of the body was smashed to pieces. The extension and step ladders inside were shattered, the bonnet was ripped off, the bumper bar broken into sevaral pieces and the cab badly dinted. Pieces of the wreckage were scattered over a largo area. The railway engine was not damaged and the service proceeded normally.
