Her Excellency Ltidy Newall has consented to be patroness of the League of Alothers, which was founded by the wife of a former Governor-General, ' Lady Alice Fergusson. Lady Newall has also shown her interest in the Plunket Society, having paid a visit to inspec- j tion tnis week to the Wellington Finnket rooms and the Sir Truby and Lady King Karitaue Hospital at Alelrose. Her Excellency’s three children were brought up according to the Truby King methods and she mentioned how proud she was of this fact and congratulated the committees on the splendid work they were doing. Her Excellency has also consented to be patron of the New Zealand Women’s Institutes. Alias Kennedy, who has been visiting Wellington, has returned to Palmerston North. After a visit to Palmerston North Aliss Alary Fauchelle returned to Nelson yesterday. Air. and Airs. G. C. Petersen and Aliss; C. Cairns, Alere Alere Avenue, returned at the week-end after spending the Easter vacation at D’Urville Island. j Tutor Sister Syrne, of the Palmerston North Hospital, has been appointed to ' the board of examiners for elementary nursing and hygiene papers in the preliminary State examination. Staff Nurses Aliller and Titshall, of the Palmerston North Hospital staff, have taken up duties at Burnham Alilitary Hospital preparatory to proceeding overseas. Aliss L. E. Coldstream, who is at present taking her Plunket training at the Karitane Harris Hospital in Dunedin, has been appointed to the position of sister at the Palmerston North Hospital maternity annexe. Congratulations were extended by the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday to Aliss L. AI. Banks, matron at the hospital, on her recent appointment as a member of the Nurses and Midwives’ Registration Board. This is the first occasion on which a matron outside the four centres has been appointed to the board. Mrs. Edith How-Alartyn, of London, paid a return visit to Palmerston North yesterday to address an open meeting of the Manawatu branch of the National Council of Women on “Planning for Peace.” She will be the guest of the president, Airs. J. Harris, Turakina, until her return to Napier later.in the week.
