Manawatu Federation Of Womens Institutes

The second annual report of the Manawatu Federation of Women’s In-

stitutes states:—The institutes are surmounting the difficulties caused by petrol restrictions by utilising their own inembers for education and entertainment. So far as possible a Federation officer was present at all but one institute annual meeting and it was gratifying to find that most can claim a flourishing financial position. The institutes are to be congratulated on the immense amount of patriotic work thev are doing and as the need IS still [great, vour executive hopes they 1 continue to carry on the good work. Last year it was found necessary to abandon the Drama Festival, but it n 'hoped to urrange competitions in various centres, as a certain amount of relaxation is good for each oue ol us. The institutes are asked to start drama and singing circles immediately to be readv for the festival, the proceeds of which it is suggested should go to somo patriotic cause. We are indebted to Mrs. E. H. Guthrie of the Oroua 1 adoration". for her self-sacrificing work in distributing the calendars dunng. the last two years, also to Mrs. W. G. Short ‘and Mrs. A. McCorkindale who compiled the calendar this year, the calendar is our only outside source of •income and should be supported by our members. Mrs. T. D. Lynch, who represented Manawatu at the Dominion Council meeting held in February, J brought back a good report of the proceedings. Wo were fortunate once more at the end of last year, in having Miss Hazel Johnson, S.A.R. fellow, available in this Federation; and many institutes benefited by her talks and demonstrations. In February, the resignation of Mrs. E. Dvmock from the executive, owing to her removal to Auckland, was received with regret and it#was decided to place on record appreciation of her services during the past year. Your executive urges all members to be loyal to their movement, to carry on the best 'of their ability and to fit themselves <o make the best contribution to th« common good. The need oD our organisation is greater than ever and as shown in all reports, members are taking their share in knitting, sewing, packing parcels, helping at the patriotic i shop find canteen service, also arising money for all patriotic efforts, for which the committee’s thanks are due. With wise planning we shall be ready for whatever call conies, and also to help in preparing for the peace which must surely come. |
