Storm Toll in Spain and Portugal
HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE, AS WELL AS PROPERTY DAMAGE Received Wednesday, 8.25 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 18. The storm damage at Santander (Spain) is estimated to exceed £6,000,000. The hurricane killed hundreds of livestock throughout Spain, wrecked 200 houses at Sestao, in Viscaya, destroyed the village of Trevij.w), near Logrono, and damaged the Burgos Cathedral. The damage in Portugal is estimated at £10,000,000. One estimate says there have been s#oo5 # 00 deaths. The bean crop has been destroyed, orange groves flattened, and 100,000 olive trees rooted-up. Ot one small fishing port alane 600 boats were dashed to pieces. The wrecks of larger ships are constantly reported along the coast.
