Post-war European Structure
MUST BE BASED ON FREEDOM (British Official Wireless.) Received Sunday, 7.30 p.m. RUGBY, Jan. 4. Speaking at Oxford, Lord Samuel referred to the post-war European structure. He said any new order based on oppression must be rejected and a new order based on concepts of freedom set up. The League of Nations were fundamentally on right lines, he continued, and should be re-established. But, in addition, it would be necessary to consider the re-establishment of a concert of Europe. It might even be found desirable to form a confederation, but lasting peace could only be secured if there was a desire for it and a feeling that tho obligations undertaken by the nations will be fulfilled. “Everything depends on the influence of sound philosophy and effective religion on the mind of the world,” ho concluded.
