Wairarapa Railway Traffic Disorganised
TENDER LEAVES RAILS Ter Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 5. Traffic on tho Wairarapa line was disorganised for some hours yesterday following the derailment of the tender of an engine at Cross Creek. Tho engine belonged to a passenger train which left Woodville at 12.15 p.m., being due at Wellington at 5.44 p.m. At Cross Creek the engine was being detached from the train when the tender failed to negotiate the points in tho railway yard and was derailed, blocking the line. The mishap occurred at 3.30 p.m. and tho passengers had to bo taken back to Foatherston and thence by bus to Wellington, arriving shortly after 8 p.m The 3.30 p.m. railcar to Palmorston North was about an hour late as a result of tho derailment and tho 6.4 p.m. railcar to W'oodvillc about 45 minutes late. The lino was clear again at 7.25 p.m.
TWO LINESMEN INJURED BY SPECIAL TRAIN Per I J resj Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 5. Struck by a. train on the Wairarapa lino between the Summit and Kaitoke last evening, railway service linesmen travelling on a motor trolley received injuries necessitating their removal to hospital. They were: Frederick William Lucas, single, aged 41, of Kaitoke, scalp wounds and head injuries; and Patrick Brosnahan, single, aged 29, of Kaitoke, fractured right leg and scalp wounds. The men were struck by a special train which had left the Surqmit at 5.55 p.m, with passengers who were
being taken back to Featherston following the blocking of the line at Cross Creek by tho derailment of a tender. The injured .men were taken by train to Upper Hutt and from there, by ambulance to the Wellington Hospital.
