Are Raiders Using Japanese Ports?
BRITISH AMBASSADOR MAKING INVESTIGATIONS Received Thursday, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 2. The News-Chrontcle’g political correspondent (Mr. Vernon Bartlett, M.P.) states that the British Ambas sador to Japan (Sir Robert Craigie) has been instructed to inquire into the reports that German ships are fitting out as sea raiders in Japanese ports. He points out that the sinking of the Turakina and the shelling of Nauru add urgency to the Inquiries. A Tokio message says the Navy spokesman declares: “Under no circumstances has Japan sanctioned to German raiders the use of Japanese vessels’ names or Japanese flags.” He said he was without Information regarding reports that the raiders were sailing in the vicinity of Jap-anese-controlled Islands. ,
