Hitler, in a New y ear message to the Army, refers to his glorious victories. 4 ‘ You have not only overcome the fighting forces of your enemies by the power of your arms but have morally conquered the occupied territories by your proud bearing and exemplary discipline. Hitler, in a message to the Nazi Party, said: ‘ ‘ The war will bo continued to the end. That is to say until the criminals responsible for it are removed. It is no empty phrase but a bloody reality when we say for every bomb ten or if necessary a hundred will be dropped iu return. The Reich in the year 1940 achieved glorious victories.
“The shame of the surrender in the Compiegne (in 1918) has been eliminated forever. We also thank the heroic soldiers of our ally Italy. ” Marshal Goering, m a message to the Air Force, said: “Like iron stand our air defences at home and in the occupied territories. Tney are responsible for the fact that the incursions of the enemy have not achieved any military and scarcely any other appreciable damage. You carried out the promise of a hundredfold reprisals. By the side of our naval forces you are at present the mainstay of our direct onslaught against England. We know we have behind us the inexhaustible armament industry whose workers toil day and night for us. We are fighting so that ■the German people may live and see the work of the Fuhrer completed. ’ ’ Marshal Goering, in a proclamation to the German people, said: “We have the world’s bravest soldiers equipped with the world's best arms. The future is ours! Our watchword is: Fowrard with all your strength to final victory. ’ ’ Admiral Raeder, in a message to the naval forces, said: “You have dealt blow after blow at tho enemy on the seven seas and along the coasts and have shaken British supremacy.”
Marshal von Brauchitseh also issued a New Year Order of the Day to the Army, expressing confidence in German victory.
